But being into the auto industry as I am, I had to find out the answer to the question posed. The interactive ad allowed me to vote on a series of questions including "Who builds the most fuel-efficent car?," "Who builds the most reliable car?," and "Who builds the most performance-oriented car?"
To vote, users simply choose from the logos of most common auto makers. Results are shown at the end. When I voted, Toyota's reputation for durability had it leading that category, while Honda's fuel-efficency made it the respective leader . BMW, no doubt due to it's M-series models and the new X6, took the lead in the performance category.
There is a call to return this coming Sunday, September 13th when the best car is unveiled. By the way, the Website is http://www.thebestcarwins.com/. I've bookmarked it so I remember to visit on Sunday.
While sponsorship wasn't revealed in the ad, all roads point toward it being put on by GM's marketing gurus, meaning a Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, and/or GMC model is going to be the "winner" in each category. The blogosphere is abuzz with this being a GM promo, and an Associated Press article ascribes "May the Best Car Win" to GM's advertising arsenal.
So we already know who's going to make the best car that's going to "win." I'll still check back on Sunday though. I'm curious what GM model(s) it will be, and I'll be even more intrigued to see if these new ads can ultimately save the dying General.
