I noted on my Facebook news feed that yesterday’s “Funnies Page” in the newspaper dealt mostly with the topic of volunteering. I realize that what I saw was but a small sample of published strips—just those chosen for purchase from the syndicates by Buffalo News editors.
Today, many cartoon characters were resting and talking about how good their volunteer experiences made them feel. I fear President Obama is tampering with the press, in addition to waging war on Fox News. The foundations of the First Amendment are being shaken.
OK, ok…perhaps a little dramatic. Still, with community service being so near and dear to this administration’s heart, one can’t wonder what was going on in the comics yesterday. Surprisingly, "Doonesbury" (the all-things-Republican bashing strip) was too busy satirizing Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize to have any of its motley crew giving back to the community.
One cartoon that I often think is drawn under the influence of narcotics (legal or otherwise) is "Get Fuzzy." The anthropomorphic cat and dog, their dumbfounded owner, and the strange plots sometimes make me laugh and sometimes confuse me beyond reason. Today, however, I could totally relate to "Fuzzy."
Even with pop-up blockers on most web browsers today, those annoying bright red NetFlix pop-ups still get through all the time. Here’s hoping a little comic callout of a shady practice will make NetFlix and/or its ad agency consider a more ethical way of advertising in the 21st century.
Anyway, that was a series of rabbit trails…enjoy the cartoon I referenced before:
