Main Street Update

I’ll give a little Main St. construction update. East Main, which includes the area around Vidlers, is looking great. The street is all repaved now. I’m not sure if this is the final coat of blacktop or if there’ll be more, but as for right now it’s smooth and stripes are painted on it. The new sidewalks are in, and the Victorian lamps are lit at night.

It really is nice to see our restored village beginning to take shape. One thing missing on East Main is some greenery: the space between the sidewalk and the street needs grass and/or shrubbery put in. But that’s coming too, I noticed some grass seed in what are otherwise mud pits.

The worst construction mess is up around Main and Maple now, and continues down toward the circle (which is still a pile of dirt). At least this year the sidewalk festival will be salvaged; I saw an ad for it in this week's Pennysaver. The festival is scheduled for July 25th and should definitely be a boon to Main St. businesses that have suffered while the road was tore up. (Assuming the cool, rainy weather that has typified this summer changes.)

Construction crews were out in full force, and they’re not the friendliest, hence the lack of updated photos. At least I got these two, one is Main at Maple and the other shows the ongoing work at Main and Whaley. They're hardly worth uploading into a Flickr gallery (click each photo for a larger view):
